PEMF therapy, magnetotherapy, magnetic therapy, magnet therapy, electroPEMF therapy, biostimulant magnetic fields can all be considered synonymous and indicate the use of electronic equipment to generate therapeutic magnetic fields.

PEMF therapy, or electroPEMF therapy, is an instrumental physical therapy used in the physiotherapeutic field that utilises the properties of magnetic or electromagnetic fields to reduce the symptoms of muscular inflammatory states and traumatic or chronic bone conditions.

The working principle of PEMF therapy is simple.

This therapy uses magnetic fields generated by electronic equipment and solenoids.

The magnetic waves produced interact with the cellular structure and reactivate its normal functioning and balance.

The cells that make up the tissues have a membrane outside them (the cell membrane) mainly formed by lipids. This membrane has the function of separating and, at the same time, linking the cells with the outside world.

The exchange between the internal and external environment of the cell occurs thanks to the difference in electrical potential that is generated on the surface of the cell membrane.

The electric charge is generated by chemical reactions of bond cleavage of the elements into more or less simple ions.

During inflammation, the cell membrane loses its electrical capacity, thus reducing the correct exchange between the cell interior and exterior. Inflammation causes a temperature increase that alters the environment and prevents the normal chemical reaction that generates the potential difference.

The electromagnetic waves generated by a PEMF therapy device allow you to increase the difference in potential, reactivating the communication process between the cell interior and exterior and accelerating the healing process of the tissue treated.

Repolarisation of the cell membrane offers the following beneficial effects.

Osteogenesis: The use of pulsed electromagnetic fields allows a simpler transfer of calcium ions from the outside into the bone tissue, resulting in a faster healing process in the event of fractures or trauma. This process is very useful as a maintenance therapy for osteoporosis.

Antalgic effect: This means pain reduction resulting from the reduction of inflammation.

Relaxing effect: The muscle affected by a contracture, if subjected to the action of magnetic fields, tends to relax thus accelerating the healing process.
